VIReC hosts several cyberseminar series to provide expert discussion and guidance on key issues related to using VA data for research.

Database & Methods

Faculty from VIReC and guest lecturers present these informational seminars to help VA researchers access and use VA databases for research. The objectives of this series are to:

  • Demonstrate applications of VA data in research studies
  • Suggest “best practices” in using VA databases
  • Define approaches for using VA data to evaluate outcomes
  • Explore the limitations of secondary data for investigating specific concepts and outcomes

Seminars are typically held on the first Monday of the month from 1:00–2:00 PM (ET).

Clinical Informatics

In this currently archived series, presenters elaborate on applications of clinical informatics in research and quality improvement projects and explain how to evaluate clinical informatics and IT interventions.

Visit VIReC's Cyberseminar Archive and filter by Clinical Informatics to view archived sessions.

Good Data Practices

Discover best practices in data use and data management from seasoned health services researchers and data experts.

In VIReC's Good Data Practices 2017 Cyberseminar Series, researchers will discuss how interactions between study design and data decisions have influenced data planning, management, and analysis in their studies. Sessions will take place in February. View the complete schedule and register below. Session descriptions and additional details are available in the Good Data Practices 2017 Cyberseminar Series Flyer.

Highlighting Data & Information Systems in Partnered Research

This series focuses on the use of VA data and information systems in quality improvement projects and research-operations partnerships. Sessions highlight QUERI projects and Partnered Evaluation Initiatives, partnered research experiences, and operational data resources that are available to VA researchers.

The target audience for this series includes QUERI, Partnered Evaluation Initiative, and CREATE researchers and project staff, researchers focused on quality improvement, quality improvement managers, operations staff, and other key stakeholders.

Seminars are usually held on the third Tuesday of the month from 12:00 – 1:00 PM (ET).

Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW)

VIReC hosts occasional cyberseminars on various topics related to the use of CDW data for VA research. Join experts from VIReC and guest speakers for these lively and informative presentations.

VIReC recommends these seminars for those new to using the CDW.

Innovations in Healthcare Informatics

In this currently archived series, thought leaders and researchers engaged in innovative and cutting edge healthcare informatics research present their work to VA researchers and practitioners to help them elaborate important scientific areas for their future research.

VIReC cyberseminars are supported by the Health Services Research and Development Service (HSR&D) Center for Information Dissemination and Education Resources (CIDER). Contact the VIReC HelpDesk for more information about these series.
