The purpose of the Sport Fishing and Boating Partnership Council (SFBPC) is to:

"...advise the Secretary of the Interior, through the Director of the Fish and Wildlife Service, on aquatic conservation endeavors that benefit recreational fishery resources and recreational boating and that encourage partnerships among industry, the public, and government."

The Department of the Interior and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service believe that this can best be accomplished by seeking the advice of public and private sector entities through the establishment of an advisory committee. SFBPC is under the programmatic responsibilities of the Assistant Director for Fish and Aquatic Conservation, funded through the Federal Aid in Sport Fish Restoration Act
