November 20, 2014: Communities Planning to Mitigate Wildfire Hazards

Meeting Notes

Recorded Webinar

Hello,

You are invite to attend the next CAL FIRE Fire and Resource Assessment Steering Committee (FRASC) meeting, which will be held from 9:00 -- 12:00, on November 20, 2014, at the Wildland Fire Conference and Training Center in McClellan, CA. This public forum, which will also be streamed via webinar, will focus on issues related to Community Wildfire Planning. Chapter 3.3 from the 2010 FRAP Assessment, "Planning for and Reducing Wildfire Risks to Communities" provides some background on the importance of wildfire planning in these communities (see: http://frap.fire.ca.gov/data/assessment2010/pdfs/3.3planning_for_wildfire_risks.pdf ). And due to recent legislation, community planning in wildlands is becoming an increasing focus of CAL FIRE's activities. Three guest panelists have accepted our invitation to provide their experience and perspectives on this important issue. The meeting's full agenda and webinar link are below.

As you may know, for the past two years the Fire and Resource Assessment Program (FRAP) of CAL FIRE has been hosting FRASC meetings on a quarterly basis, as public forums to discuss important issues related to California forests and rangelands. The list of meetings and topics covered, along with notes and audio recordings, is available on FRAP's website:http://frap.fire.ca.gov/frasc/index.php. The meetings have been a main part of our outreach efforts, in support of the five year cycle Assessment reports to the Board of Forestry mandated by the state legislature.

We hope you are able to join us for a free-ranging discussion of these important issues. Please bring any comments and suggestions you may have on improving our planning for communities that are better protected from the effects of wildfire.

Best regards,

Rich Walker
