NCINCR-MCB Quantico Commander Col. Joseph M. Murray greeted players and spectators at the 2016 Armed Forces Men’s Basketball Championship in the Barber Physical Activity Center Tuesday morning. 
Following his comments, spectators filled the bleachers for tip-off of the first game: Marine Corps vs. Air Force. The round-robin tournament began Tuesday, with every team playing each other twice. The top teams will face off in the championship game Monday, Nov. 7. Marine Corps players represent installations around the world, including MCAS New River, MCAS Cherry Point, MCLB Albany, MCB Camp Lejeune, MCB Butler, Okinawa, MCB Camp Lejeune and the Pentagon.

Jim Cook, Retired Marine, Range & Training Area Management civilian and avid hunter of deer and small game utilized the skinning shed at the game check station. Jim shared the story of his successful crossbow hunt with Col. Murray, Commanding Officer, MCINCR-MCBQ and Brad Watkin, Wildlife Biologist, NREA.

Frederick Padilla, president of the National Defense University at Fort McNair, Washington, D.C., gives a keynote address during the National Hispanic Heritage Month Luncheon hosted by Marine Corps Systems Command Oct. 13, at The Clubs at Quantico. Padilla, whose father was an officer in the U.S. Air Force and whose grandfather served in the Army during World War I, shared the story of how his grandparents came to live in America. “My story is not unique,” Padilla said. “It’s an American story. We all have an American story.” Padilla also talked about Marine Staff Sgt. Riayan Tejeda, who was killed in combat in Iraq in 2003, and posthumously granted U.S. citizenship. Sixty ladies dressed in pink and arrived to The Clubs at Quantico October 14, to experience a night of fun and education. This is the seventh year Pink Ribbon Bunco has been hosted by Semper Fit Health Promotion.

Shannon Sanderlin and Arika Brown, festive friends and HMX-1 spouses attended Pink Ribbon Bunco. Sixty ladies dressed in pink and arrived to The Clubs at Quantico October 14, to experience a night of fun and education. This is the seventh year Pink Ribbon Bunco has been hosted by Semper Fit Health Promotion.

first deer of the season with a crossbow in Training Area 5 Bravo, Oct 1, a
cold and wet evening.  The doe was 5 years old and weighed 95 pounds.  An
hour later, his hunting partner shot a 96 pound doe making it a very
successful first outing of the season.

Cpl. Brandon Ashby, Ammunition Supply Point, MCB Quantico, with only two days notice competed in the MDW Combatives tournament, Sept. 23 at Fort Belvoir, and placed second.  Cpl Ashby's fastest submission of the day was under 13 seconds via Rear Naked Choke vs an Airforce TechSgt. Cpl Ashby has a Brazilian jujitsu background and received his tan tab at the MACE to become an MAI 0916.

The Fish, Wildlife, and Agronomy Program has CANCELLED the either sex deer hunting days scheduled for 10 Dec 2016 and 7 January 2017 in the firearms hunting training areas. Only antlered deer in our firearms hunting training areas are allowed to be harvested on these days. Please contact the Game Check Station at 703-784-5523 for additional information about this change.
