Schuler to lead ND Dept. of Commerce

Gov. Doug Burgum on Friday, 1/27/2017, appointed GIANT Sunflower Seeds co-founder Jay Schuler to lead the North Dakota Department of Commerce, citing Schuler's successful track record as a job creator and entrepreneur for more than 40 years. As commissioner, one of his top priorities will be to advance the governor's Main Street Initiative, focusing on a skilled workforce, smart, efficient infrastructure and healthy, vibrant communities.

Tufte appointed as State Health Officer

Health management executive and former critical care nurse Mylynn Tufte will serve as North Dakota's next Health Officer, bringing an extensive clinical, business and technology background to the top leadership role in the Department of Health, Gov. Doug Burgum announced Wednesday. Her diverse experience includes working with state governments, national and regional health plans, integrated delivery networks, academic and community medical centers, physician groups and accountable care organizations.

Jones appointed to Dept. of Human Services

Gov. Doug Burgum on Friday, 02/03/2017, appointed health care executive Christopher D. Jones to lead the Department of Human Services (DHS), putting a proven strategic planner in charge of North Dakota's largest state agency. Jones will bring 19 years of experience in health service operations, strategy, technology and consulting to his new role as DHS Executive Director. He will officially join the department and the governor's cabinet on Feb. 27.

Snowmobile Trails Open

Just over 2,800 miles of groomed snowmobile trails are available to North Dakota snowmobiling enthusiasts. Trails are open from December 1 through April 1, depending on snow cover.

Gov. Doug Burgum and state officials unveiled a new website and related social media accounts designed to provide information during issues of significant public impact and involving a multi-agency response. NDResponse.gov supports response and recovery coordination with state and local agencies in each county and tribal nation within North Dakota.
