Gainesville VA scientist recognized by White House as one of nation's best

Joshua Yarrow, PhD, a VA research health scientist specializing in physiology and kinesiology, was named by President Obama this week as one of 102 scientists and researchers selected to receive the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the highest honor bestowed by the United States Government on science and engineering professionals in the early stages of their independent research careers. The Center of Innovation on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (CINDRR) is a multi-site COIN research center located in Gainesville, FL and Tampa, FL. It is affiliated with the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center and the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital. Both sites are part of the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 8 which extends from South Georgia to Miami, Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

CINDRR is dedicated to conducting research that identifies, develops, and tests strategies for improving Veteran rehabilitation services across the continuum of care and providing long term support for Veterans with disabilities and their families, including issues related to access, utilization, cost, quality, and health outcomes.

Our research focuses on maximizing Community Reintegration and Caregiving outcomes, seamlessly integrating Rehabilitation Analytics Research, and advocating the use of Rehabilitation Technology to provide outstanding outcomes for Veterans and their families. Our center goals include providing excellent Mentorship opportunities for the next generation of VA researchers and fostering Cross-Center Collaborations and VA Operational Partnerships to benefit VHA research.
