Mental Health in VAMental Health

VA investigators, many of whom also provide patient care, are pioneering advances in the understanding and treatment of mental health disorders. Researchers are looking at various potential approaches for treating and preventing mental health disorders and also at related issues such as developing and evaluating collaborative primary care models and improving access to services from remote areas using the Internet and other progressive technologies.

VA Women's Health Services Research Conference 2014

Source: U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

With VA HSR&D Service funding and support, the Center had the opportunity to organize and convene a national VA Women’s Health Services Research Conference on Enhancing Partnerships to Improve Research and Care for Women Veterans.  Nearly 200 individuals attended the Conference held in Arlington, VA, on July 31-August 1, 2014, including VA researchers, leaders from a wide array of VHA program and policy offices, as well as representatives from the Center for Women Veterans, the Departments of Defense, Labor, and Health & Human Services, and the Institute of Medicine, among others.  The Center’s Conference role was organized through the VA Women’s Health Research Network (SDR #10-012, PIs Elizabeth Yano, PhD, MSPH, Susan Frayne, MD, MPH, and Alison Hamilton, PhD).

Partnerships

In addition to research collaborations, we conduct multi-site and multi-VISN intervention and implementation trials with clinical trials with clinical leads across the country. Our principal partners are the Office of Primary Care, Office of Women's Health Services and Office of Informatics and Analytics. These research-clinical partnerships each reflect over a decade of prior collaborative work. We also partner with resource centers and national program offices with clinical, practice and research focuses. For more information about our partnerships, please see our Partner & Resource Centers.

National and Regional Leadership Roles

Our investigators contribute to policy and practice through numerous leadership roles. They make particularly strong contributions to VA Central Office, major health care quality agencies and organizations and professional societies. For more information about leadership roles, see About Us.
