Section 508

Section 508 requires that all website content be accessible to people with disabilities. This applies to Web applications, Web pages and all attached files on the intranet, as well as, internet.

Each month the Department of Health and Human Services runs a 508 analysis on all of the website in its portfolio.  The resulting report is called a “HHS 508 Leaderboard Report.” This 508 status report is made available to every OPDIV and STAFFDIV for any needed actions to achieve a 508 compliant site. Use the link to see the most recent leaderboard report.

What is the ASPA/DCD 508 Program?

The ASPA/DCD 508 Program is housed within the OS/ASPA Digital Communications Division.

The goals of the program are to assist HHS OPDIVs and STAFFDIVs in:

  • Testing website, Web pages, Web applications, widgets, documents, and email blasts for 508 compliance
  • Provide guidance on how to correct 508 issues within existing website and documents
  • Empower OPDIVs with the knowledge and resources to ensure the compliance of future website through various training sessions and materials
