The NWCG Leadership Subcommittee, in conjunction with the National Advanced Fire and Resource Institute (NAFRI), is pleased to again offer senior-level leaders in the wildland fire service a series of opportunities for continuing leadership development through the L-580 Leadership is Action program.
Battle of Gettysburg Staff Ride
In July of 1863, one of the most significant "incidents" in American history occurred in the small town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, when two American armies collided at a crossroads. The leaders of these two armies, many of whom are now permanent fixtures in American history, faced leadership challenges surprisingly similar to those faced by today's incident managers. Using the Battlefield as a historical backdrop, the Staff Ride is facilitated by experts in leadership and incident management. The Staff Ride focuses on individual and team decision making, successful traits of senior leaders and incident management at a strategic level.
This staff ride is a three day event that will be conducted during the week of May 6, 2013 at Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania. Participants experience the battlefield as part of a conference group, comprised of 10-15 individuals including assigned cadre.
Wharton Leadership Conference
The annual Wharton Leadership Conference is one of the gatherings most popular with, and most beneficial for, corporate leaders, according to a recent report by public relations firm Weber-Shandwick entitled Five-Star Executive Conferences...and another public relations firm, Burson-Marsteller, named the conference as one of the "Most Valued Podiums" for CEOs and senior executives.
The purpose of this conference is to learn from the observations and experiences of senior-level leaders who operate in different work environments so that participants can reflect on strategies that may improve their ability to lead the organizations they manage.
This conference is a two day event and is hosted by the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, on June 19, 2013. There will be 12 seats allocated for this group. More information about this event can be found on the following link:

regional, or state offices and Agency Administrators/Line Officers involved in managing complex incidents.
Tuition: Sponsored by the NWCG Leadership Subcommittee and National Advanced Fire and Resource
Institute (NAFRI).
Travel: Responsibility of sending unit.
Nomination Processes
Gettysburg Nominations (IQCS session # 00008): Persons meeting the target audience description should
submit their nominations to their Geographic Area Training Representatives (GATRs). GATRs will work with
Geographic Area Coordinating Groups to nominate a team from their geographic area to attend the event.
Our goal is to select 3-5 Geographic Area Teams per session. However, teams may consist of members from
combined Geographic Areas. Our optimal 15 person team consists of the following:

• 1 Wildland Fire Subject Matter Expert
• 1 Military Subject Matter Expert
