How many alternative fuel and hybrid vehicles are there in the United States?

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) has estimates and projections for stocks of alternative fuel vehicles,1 including electric and hybrid-electric vehicles, in the United States in the Annual Energy Outlook. See tables:

1A vehicle designed to operate on an alternative fuel, such as electricity, ethanol, liquid petroleum gas, or natural gas. The vehicle can be either a dedicated vehicle designed to operate exclusively on an alternative fuel or a nondedicated vehicle designed to operate on an alternative fuel and/or a traditional fuel (gasoline and diesel fuel).
