What is the purpose of the research study?
To understand brain networks that are involved in drug addiction and to look at factors that make some people more or less susceptible to becoming addicted

Who can participate in the study?
This study is accepting men and women who are

  • 18 to 55 years of age
  • In generally good health
  • Non smokers

What will participants be asked to do?
The study consists of 5 visits. The first visit is for orientation and will last about 5 hours. Then there are 4 study visits that will last 7 to 8 hours. We will try to schedule visits about one week apart over 5 to 7 weeks.
Participants will:

  • Receive study medication or a placebo (pills with no medication in it) at each of the 4 study visits
  • Provide urine and breath samples
  • Have an MRI brain scan while performing tasks
  • Complete questionnaires
  • Perform tasks on a computer

Where is the study taking place?
The NIDA Intramural Research Program is located on the Johns Hopkins Bayview campus in east Baltimore.

Will there be any cost to participate?
There is no cost for participation.

Will participants receive payment of some kind?
All study participants will be paid for their time and travel.
