575% Growth of solar from 2011 to 2014 in New York State

Powerful change

Right now, New York State is undertaking significant change in how it generates and delivers energy. Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) is Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s strategy aimed at building a next-generation energy system that is clean, resilient, and affordable for all New Yorkers. His aggressive Clean Energy Standard commitment will require 50% of New York State’s electricity to be sourced from renewable energy sources by 2030. Solar is part of that strategy, and the NY-Sun Incentive Program will help bring affordable solar electric power to 150,000 new homes and businesses by 2020.

Assisting our community officials

Solar power takes local leadership. New York State municipalities are responsible for setting local policy pertaining to solar taxation, permitting, and zoning. Firefighters and first responders need to know what to do if they encounter a solar panel system during an emergency. NY-Sun provides the resources, training, and one-on-one assistance that local officials need to make their community ready for solar.

Shared Solar for your community

Everyone can get solar electric in New York State if we work together. Renters, homeowners, low-income residents, schools, and businesses can join together to set up shared solar electric systems. These shared resources result in expanded access to renewable energy and healthier, stronger communities for all. It is also referred to as community distributed generation (or community DG).

Preparing for your solar installation

Installing a solar electric system can be a great investment and provide a long-term source for renewable power for your home or business. But it is a big commitment too. Learn about solar electric system options and financing before choosing a Participating Contractor.
