CERC Science Topic: Sediment Toxicology

freshwater mussel toxicity testSediments play an important role in aquatic ecosystems since they serve as a source and sink for organic and inorganic materials, and as habitat for many organisms in aquatic food webs.

Scientists at CERC develop and apply testing and data analysis tools for use by scientists, regulators and mangers interested in investigating sediment toxicity, bioaccumulation and bioavailability of chemicals to aquatic organisms, such as endangered fish, benthic invertebrates and freshwater mussels.
