Commercial and Farm Trucks Vehicle Services

The Division is comprised of four sections: Administrative Section, International Registration Plan (IRP) Processing Section, Farm, Mileage and Installment Section and Validation Section and is responsible for the registering, licensing and credentialing of commercial vehicles (primarily second Division vehicles – [trucks, tractors and trailers]) from walk-in customers, mailed applications and those dropped of by licensed remittance agents. Telephone inquiries regarding all aspects of registration and/or issues regarding commercial vehicles are fielded within each Section.

The Division is the central repository for SHV (Special Hauling Vehicle) information and permit sales, CFV (Covered Farm Vehicle) information and permit sales, HVUT (Heavy Vehicle Use Tax) under the authority of the Internal Revenue Service and the primary contact for Required Registrations. Each Section is responsible for portions of the registration process for Farm, Mileage Tax, Apportioned, Restricted and Fiscal plated vehicles. Oversight of the 45-Day Temporary Apportionment Authorization process, issuance 72-hour trip permits, 7 and 30 day permits and the processing of installment registrations for IRP registrations and fiscal Flat Weight registrations including coordination those processed by the Chicago West Facility is part of the responsibility of the Division. The Division is also responsible for the accounting of monies collected and distributed or received both for Illinois and those foreign jurisdictions as members of the IRP.
