Sens. Warner and Webb Applaud Nomination of Anthony J. Trenga to the Eastern District Court of Virginia

Thursday, July 17, 2008

Today, Senator John Warner (R-VA) and Senator Jim Webb (D-VA) supported President Bush’s nomination of Anthony Trenga to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, as he was on their list of recommendations.

“I was pleased to join Senator Webb in strongly recommending several exemplary individuals for the U. S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, including Anthony J. Trenga,” said Senator Warner. “I commend the president for his nomination of this distinguished Virginian.”

“Senator Warner and I jointly recommended Anthony Trenga for the Eastern District because of his impressive and solid legal qualifications,” said Senator Webb. “I am pleased that the president has nominated Mr. Trenga, whom Senator Warner and I selected as part of a collaborative effort to ensure appropriate judicial leadership for Virginia.

“Anthony Trenga has demonstrated high legal intellect and sound interpretation of the law throughout his distinguished career.  I know he will continue to do so as a United States District Judge,” concluded Webb.

In June 2007, Senators Warner and Webb forwarded a recommendation letter to the president that included the names of five prominent members of the Virginia State Bar who are all deemed eminently qualified. The senators worked together, engaging in an extensive, thorough search for lawyers and judges they regarded as highly qualified for lifetime appointments to the federal judiciary.

Anthony Trenga has worked at the law firm of Miller and Chevalier since 1998, where he specializes in litigation and trial practice.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has served as a member of the faculty of the National Trial Advocacy College at the University of Virginia, sponsored by the Virginia CLE Committee of the Virginia Bar Foundation.

Mr. Trenga received his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law and completed his undergraduate studies at Princeton University.  Upon graduation, he was a law clerk to the Honorable Ted Dalton, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia, from 1974 to 1975.

From 1982-1998, Mr. Trenga was a partner at Sachs, Greenbaum & Tayler in Washington, D.C. and a managing partner at Hazel & Thomas based in Fairfax, VA. While practicing law, he took additional graduate level courses at Georgetown University Law School in securities regulation, tax and international law.

Mr. Trenga has been active in community affairs, including chairman and member of the Alexandria Human Rights Commission, the Board of Directors of the Northern Virginia Urban League, the Board of Trustees of the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, and the Board of Directors for the Bethesda Center of Excellence.
