Workplace Conflict Management Section

Section Chair:

Federal Emergency Management Agency
Email address:Cindy.Mazur@dhs.gov
Telephone: (202) 646-4094

Originally conceived as one of four discrete Sections in specific subject matter areas, the Workplace Conflict Management Section (“Workplace Section”) provides guidance on “best practices” in ADR program development, education, and technical assistance to meet the needs of federal agencies interested in developing or strengthening their workplace dispute resolution programs.

The Workplace Section promotes the benefits of using conflict management processes and tools in federal workplace settings to provide faster, more cost-effective, and more satisfying outcomes.  The Workplace Section helps employers and employees prevent, address, and resolve all types of employment-related disputes.  In addition, workplace programs may cover issues involving current employees as well as contractors, former employees, and applicants for positions with the agency.

Guidance and Technical Assistance

The Workplace Section facilitates, encourages, and coordinates the use of ADR to address workplace conflict. To support this effort, the Workplace Section has convened a panel of dispute resolution mentors to assist and support agencies creating, developing, and enhancing workplace ADR programs.

In addition, the Workplace Section provides technical assistance in areas such as starting a federal ADR workplace program, program evaluation, criteria for the selection of the neutral practitioner, budget, etc.

Training and Education

A critical component of the Workplace Section’s training and education efforts is its ADR Lunchtime Series (generally held on a monthly basis).  The ADR Lunchtime Series features speakers who are federal ADR practitioners and administrators, professors, and private ADR practitioners.  These presenters lead current, useful, and thought-provoking sessions relevant to federal workplace ADR programs and beyond.  These volunteer speakers share their knowledge, experience, theories, and techniques with a steadily growing audience of “live” and telephonic participants.
