Spring 2008 will mark the fifth year of a Science Bowl competition designed specifically for middle school students. The Middle School Science Bowl is the first-of-its-kind competition in the Midwest to offer a challenging science and math competition for students in grades 6-8. Day One of the two-day competition will see student teams race hydrogen fuel-cell cars. Day Two will involve the traditional science and math quiz-bowl competition.

Basic facts:

  • Fifth annual competition
  • Will include up to 16 teams of 5 students – 80 kids plus coaches
  • For students in grades 6, 7, and 8
  • Held on Iowa State University campus
  • Two-day competition
    • First day includes a hydrogen fuel-cell car race, campus tours, and presentations
    • Second day is the academic competition.
  • Trophies are presented to the top two teams in each competition (academic and fuel-cell car). Each player on those teams will receive an individual award.
  • Winner of the academic competition advances to the National Middle School Science Bowl, held in Denver, Colo., in June.
