Final Deliberations and Decisions

The BRAC Commission's final deliberations will take place Wednesday, 24 August through Saturday, 27 August at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City. During this period, the nine Commissioners will be voting on DoD's recommendations to close or realign various military installations across the country. Also to be voted on and decided are the eight added recommendations, formally considered by the Commission on 19 July. These votes will determine the Commission's recommendations to the President, submitted by 8 September.

This section of the website includes the opening statement by Chairman Principi, the results of each individual motion, and further information about the final deliberations. Please note that no vote is final until the conclusion of the final deliberations session on Saturday. For media information, please view the schedule page.

  Note regarding Commission Motions:
  Throughout the proceedings of the Base Closure and Realignment Commission's Final Deliberations, the Commission passed motions that amended the Secretary of Defense's recommendations. Once the motion containing the Commission's recommendation passed, often the Commission moved and approved the Secretary's original recommendation as amended by the Commission. These "As Amended" motions (often cited as [recommendation number]-1, As Amended) did not alter the previously approved recommendations of the Commission. Rather they served to complete and clarify the action taken by the Commission.

• Bill to Make Recommendations to the President Under the Defense Base Closure and
  Realignment Act of 1990 (August 23, 2005)
  The Bill describes each one of the Secretary of Defense's recommendations for closure or realignment under consideration by the Commission. The number of the motions corresponds with the title/number of the motions to be voted on by the Commissioners. The eight motions at the end of the Bill are closures or realignments being considered by the Commission that are in addition to the Secretary's original recommendation list.
