    This we remember the WWI service of Gertrude Pershing, sister-in-law of AEF Commander John Pershing. She enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps in 1917 and served overseas as an assistant Chief Nurse. She is buried in Los Angeles National Cemetery (Sec. 152, Row D, Site 17).

    We honor Cpl. Kory Wiens & Sgt. Cooper, first K9 team killed in Iraq. Ages 20 & 4, they were cremated & interred together. Wiens received NCA grave marker in private cemetery. Cooper is honored on Wiens’ inscription.

    On International Women’s Day, we honor WWI Veteran Clara Lindquist, U.S. Army Nurse Corps. She served on the Western Front and was wounded by shrapnel. Afterwards, she treated typhus patients in Serbia. She is buried in Los Angeles National Cemetery (Sec. 180, Row E, Site 7).

    Just announced: Medal of Honor recipient Army Chaplain Emil Kapaun's remains have been positively identified by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency. He heroically accompanied U.S. troops into captivity and ministered to them until his death in 1951.
