    VA national cemeteries will be open Dec. 5 during Pres. Bush's National Day of Mourning. Cemeteries will host burial/committal services as scheduled. All national cemeteries will be open for visitation; staffing may vary by cemetery. Schedule future services at 1-800-535-1117.

    U.S. Navy Molder First Class Kenneth B. Armstrong was assigned to the USS Oklahoma in Pearl Harbor when the ship was attacked by Japanese aircraft. identified his remains, and on Friday he was buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

    For Germany’s National Day of Mourning Volkstrauertag (this year held Nov. 18), we remember the German prisoners of war buried at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan. It was the first national cemetery to host a ceremony for Axis Power.

    We salute father and son Veterans (Civil War & WWI) Richard B. Hill (1845-1920) and Andrew Hill (1892-1970). The father was director of Fayetteville AR Nat'l Cemetery. The son is buried in the Beaufort SC National Cemetery, a cemetery his father once looked after.

    USMA Randy Reeves spends time with family members at Punchbowl who lost loved ones at the Battle of Tarawa during WWII. Reeves said he is proud and honored to tell the story of these brave Veterans. "As long as we continue to tell their story they will never die."

    In honor of the men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States, dozens of volunteers recently placed 12,000 American flags, one at each headstone, in the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, Connecticut.

    Special thanks to the American Battle Monuments Commission charged with maintaining our American cemeteries in Europe - they are a beautiful and humbling sight.

    visited cemetery today to honor the fallen of on the ahead of tomorrow’s centennial. We honor the courage and sacrifice of those Americans who came to Europe to fight for peace, stability and order.

    Today we remember Chief Warrant Officer Lloyd M. Seibert (1889-1972) of Michigan. Seibert served in the U.S. Army during World War I and was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in France, on Sept. 26, 1918. He is buried in San Francisco National Cemetery.
