Colin Benward
Benward is the lead singer for an alternative rock band called Waterlow and was a contestant on Season 9 of American Idol. Since his time on American Idol he has made several cameos as one of the Warblers on the hit T.V. show Glee.

Nick Boddington
Boddington made it into the top 60 on Season 11 of American Idol and works as a background vocalist and session musician in the NYC area. He is also part of the duo The Wonderland Robbers.

Kendra Campbell
Kendra Campbell is a country girl with soul and has been singing since she could talk. Since competing on Season 10 of American Idol, the singer has honed her skills in Nashville by taking vocal lessons, performing and working in the studio.

Creighton Fraker
The American Idol Season 11 contestant is well-known for the original song he wrote for his Pittsburgh audition. Fraker's unique personality and amazing voice quickly made him a fan favorite.

Jen Hirsh
Jen Hirsh auditioned for Season 9 of American Idol but didn't make it very far until she returned to audition for Season 11. She’s a Berklee College of Music graduate and has come out with an album titled Myself In Two.

Jovany Javier
Jovany was a top 16 finalist on American Idol Season 10 and brought his "dual-threat" style of music to the stage by dominating his performances bilingually. He has been on several tours around the world performing for our troops and is currently involved in commercial modeling and soap operas.

Haley Johnson
Johnson auditioned for American Idol because the show came to her home town of Portland, Oregon. People were always telling her she could sing, but her confidence wasn’t completely solidified until she earned a ticket to Hollywood and became a contestant on Season 11.

Ashthon Jones
Jones has a powerful voice that helped her advance to the semifinals on Season 10 of American Idol. She was raised by a family of singers and got her start singing in the church choir.

Brett Loewenstern
Loewenstern was a top 24 contestant on Season 10 of American Idol. He’s referred to as a Renaissance man due to his ability to draw, act, paint, write poetry and speak a foreign language, but being on American Idol was his dream come true.

Adrien Madison
You wouldn’t know it based on his impressive vocals, but Madison only recently embraced his talent for singing. His combination of humor and talent made him well-loved by the fans and judges on Season 10 of American Idol.

Aaron Marcellus
Marcellus was a music teacher from New Jersey before he made it as a top 42 finalist on Season 11 of American Idol, which was his second time auditioning for the show.

John Wayne Schulz
Schulz was a contestant on Season 10 of American Idol and debuted his first record, Ropin’ Dreams, at the tender age of 14. The Texan is also an authentic cowboy, having grown up on an 800-acre ranch in Karnes City, Texas.

Lauren Turner
Turner made it to Hollywood during Season 4 of American Idol, but it wasn't until Season 10 that she made it to the Top 24. Born in New Orleans, she became the first New Orleans contestant to perform for Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Stephen Tyler. As a blues/soul singer, Turner is in the process of writing and recording her first album.

Ta-Tynisa Wilson
Wilson auditioned for American Idol five times before making it through to the Hollywood Round on the show’s 10th season. The top 24 finalist is also a vocal performance major at Columbia in Chicago.

Rachel Zevita
Zevita auditioned for Season 6 of American Idol but was not selected as a contestant for the show until Season 10. The young opera singer’s big voice was unique among the other American Idol voices and it took her into the top 12.

Icons World Tour Star
John Wayne Schulz
Armed Forces Entertainment Icons World Tour star John Wayne Schulz is one of eight talented musical artists currently entertaining troops at 27 military installations. Armed Forces Entertainment sat down with John to see how the trip is going so far, and from the answer to these five questions, it sounds like the group is having a great time!

Coming out of rehearsals in Dallas, what was the excitement level for the group leading up to your first performance?

The excitement level has been high ever since we began rehearsals for this tour. I don't think our excitement can be any higher than it is right now to leading up to our first performance.

You're obviously performing in conditions very different than a concert hall in the states, how hard is it to be flexible with the rehearsed show based on the stage size or facility?

We have new challenges every show with sound, staging, and sometimes weather elements, but flexibility is always expected at every performance and we always somehow produce a fun and exciting show for all ages.

Any funny stories from the trip over you can share? Who gets the awards for most efficient packer, worst packer, fear of flying, and can sleep through anything?

I never thought I could ever throw a football in an airplane. We had so much room we could have held a college bowl game inside! We had to pack over five tons of equipment in the plane and the crew did an outstanding job packing it all. Everyone was excited to fly! I think our tour manager Jimmy Swan gets the award for sleeping through turbulence and loud noise.

How are you documenting this once in a lifetime trip?

We are blessed to have a photographer with us. I brought a journal with me to write down the things that happen as we tour from show to show. Every time we have a performance we get a chance to talk to the service men and women and their families afterwards. They never cease to inspire me in some way to be a better person and help me truly realize the sacrifices they make on our behalf. Those are the things that I want to remember the most.

What songs seem to be the biggest hit among the troops, maybe they sing along to it the most.

We always end our performance with "Don't Stop Believing" by the group Journey. They always seem to get on their feet and sing along word for word.
