Center Life

A typical day at Barranquitas Job Corps is full of activities to help our students prepare for the real world. Students get up early and spend the majority of their day receiving academic and hands-on career technical training.

After class, students study or hang out with friends before dinner in the cafeteria. After dinner, students may do chores in their dorms or spend their downtime studying. Most students are in bed by 10 PM in order to rest for the next day's tasks.

Recreation

Barranquitas Job Corps boasts one of the best recreation programs in the nation. Students find our recreational activities to be a fun and exciting way to meet new friends, socialize, and just relax and unwind at the end of the day.

We have a wide variety of recreational actitivites. Some of the actitivites we offer are:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Basketball
  • Billards
  • Bingo
  • Ceramics
  • Table tennis
  • Volleyball
  • Weight lifting

Throughout the year, we schedule special events such as off-center trips, athletic meets, and social mixers.

Student Government Association

With the Student Government Association, students can participate in a democratic process of self-government, representing and directing the student body. The Student Government Association functions as a link between the staff and students of Barranquitas Job Corps.

Additionally, the Student Government Association:

  • Develops activities that enrich the education and social life of our students
  • Allows students to develop leadership skills
  • Allows students to gain personal, social, and enterprise administration skills
  • Participates in the welcoming of new students
  • Participates in disciplinary proceedings
  • Operates the student store

In general, the Student Government Association helps staff and students improve the quality of the Job Corps experience.

Safety

Job Corps is committed to offering all students a safe and secure environment. That's why we have a Zero Tolerance Policy for violence and drugs. Any student who breaks this policy will be dismissed immediately from Job Corps.
