CNA students at Job Corps

Academics

In addition to career training, Carl D. Perkins Job Corps also provides academic training, including basic reading and math. We also have several academic programs to help our students achieve their full potential. Courses in career success standards are offered in order to help students transition into the workplace. These include workplace relationships and ethics, communications, personal growth and development, interpersonal skills, information management, multicultural awareness, career and personal planning, and independent living.

GED/High School Diploma

One of our top goals at Carl D. Perkins Job Corps is to ensure that every qualified student obtains his or her GED/high school diploma prior to leaving the center. Students who don't already have a high school diploma upon their arrival at Carl D. Perkins are automatically enrolled into our GED/high school program. We offer an on-center high school diploma programs through the Paintsville Independent School System or Penn Foster High School. Our high school and GED instructors dedicate their time to their students' success. We have a high student to instructor ratio which averages at 15:1.

Driver's Education

We also offer a Driver's Education program for all students. This program has one of the highest success rates in the country in obtaining learner's permits and driver's licenses. This program is taught by a state-certified instructor.

College Program

The center offers our residential students the opportunity to attend college. To qualify for this program, a student must have a GED or high school diploma (from our center or another accredited educational facility) and have successfully completed a vocational trade at Job Corps. The students must also be chosen by our center selection committee to attend the College Program.
