Success Stories

The following is only one of the many success stories of Detroit Job Corps. This graduate's story is proof that Job Corps can start you on the path to success.

Cordaryll Monroe

Cordaryll Monroe was born in Detroit, Michigan, as one of six children. He dropped out of high school when he was 17 years old. Cordaryll then enrolled at Detroit Job Corps Center (DJCC) in July 2009. He went on to receive his A+ certification in April 2010 and his GED in May 2010. While awaiting his transition from Detroit Job Corps Center to Shriver Job Corps Center's Advanced Training program he obtained his driver's license from DJCC.

In August 2010, Cordaryll transferred from Detroit Job Corps Center to Shriver Job Corps Center's Advanced Computer Systems Administration (ACSA) program. While at Shriver Job Corps Center (SJCC), Cordaryll earned his Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) and Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) Network Infrastructure certifications that permitted him to earn and receive his Microsoft Certified Information Technology Professional Certification (MCITP). Cordaryll also had a part-time job at the local Home Depot store working 30 hours per week to save money to support his transition from center when he completed the Advanced Training program.

Some of the awards Cordaryll received in the ACSA program were the Advanced Training Deputy Center Director Award, Center Director Award, Most Honorable Dorm Student, and Most Valuable Work-Based Learning Student Award.

Cordaryll completed three internships as an ACSA student. The first was a work-based learning opportunity as a help desk technician at SJCC with the Sun Java Certification program overseen by the Information Technology (IT) Manager, Mr. Mendoza. In that position, Cordaryll received the SJCC Business Partner of the Year Award. His next internship was as a junior system administrator at the Worker's Credit Union IT Department. He ended his internship assignment at Tech Networks of Boston. Tech Networks offered Cordaryll employment as a client care specialist after he graduated. He recently earned a new certification while in the workforce; his latest promotion was to IT consultant/end user specialist for the Commonwealth Care Alliance in conjunction with Tech Networks of Boston making $17.00 per hour.

Cordaryll's future goal is to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. MIT has a strong entrepreneurial culture that highlights technological education and research. While attending MIT, Cordaryll aspires to receive both his Bachelor of Science (BS) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees in Information Management. His ultimate goal is to reside in Boston or New York and become a chief technology officer at a Fortune 500 company.

Cordaryll's words of wisdom to aspiring Job Corps students: "Make sure that today is better than yesterday and tomorrow is better than today".
