Center Life

A typical day at Fred G. Acosta Job Corps is full of activities to help our students prepare for the real world. Students get up early and spend the majority of their day receiving academic and hands-on career technical training.

After class, students study or hang out with friends before dinner in the cafeteria. After dinner, students may do chores in their dorms or spend their downtime studying. Most students are in bed by 10 PM in order to rest for the next day's tasks.

Recreation

Fred G. Acosta Job Corps boasts one of the best recreation programs in the nation. Students find our recreational activities to be a fun and exciting way to meet new friends, socialize, and just relax and unwind at the end of the day.

We offer activities such as arts and crafts, aerobics, physical education, and weight training classes. Our staff can help students develop individual workout plans for weight reduction which include tips on body conditioning and proper training techniques

We also schedule off-center activities which include trips to the movies, libraries, concerts, and other cultural events and camping trips.

Student Government Association (SGA)

The Student Government Association (SGA) is the voice of our students and is very involved in the operation of the center. It's a great opportunity for students to develop leadership skills.

The SGA meets every week to make recommendations to center management and organize student projects. New SGA officers are elected every six months. Both residential and non-residential students are represented by the SGA.

Community Involvement

We encourage all of our students to participate in community service projects. These projects include Make A Difference Day, National Youth Service Day, food drives, and blood drives.

Safety

Job Corps is committed to offering all students a safe and secure environment. That's why we have a Zero Tolerance Policy for violence and drugs. Any student who breaks this policy will be dismissed immediately from Job Corps.
