I3RC test cases
Overview of all cases
You can get to each case by clicking on its panel in the image below. Alternatively, you can find some more details below the image.
Phase III
Phase III includes two intercomparison cases that were discussed at the
Third I3RC Workshop
. The two cases are:
Broken Cumulus clouds observed by Terra over Brazil
Lidar pulses in optically thick clouds
Phase II
Included computations for 3D radiative transfer through two 3D cloud fields generated by LES simulations:
continental shallow cumulus boundary layer
stratocumulus cloud layer
Results from these cloud fields were generated for two application areas:
remote sensing
heating rate
Results from Phase II are available
here.

Phase I
Included several baseline radiative computations for 3D radiative transfer through the following cloud fields:
1D academic 'step' cloud field
2D field derived from the ARM cloud radar
3D field derived from radiances measured by the Landsat Thematic Mapper instrument
These computations involved cloud and surface only (i.e., no gases or aerosol) and were monochromatic, with scattering and absorption only (i.e., no emission), and were completed independently at each participants' home institutions.
