Career Training
In addition to academic training, Long Beach Job Corps provides career technical training in several vocational trades.
Job Corps is committed to the development of green job training. All students who enter in Advanced Manufacturing, Automotive, or Construction career technical training areas will train in a variety of green subject areas. These career areas are marked below with a green tree icon

Automotive Service/Repair
In the Automotive Service/Repair program, our students learn about front end brakes, steering, engine principles, tune-up, air-conditioning, oil and lubrication, and rear axle and driveline repair. Students also learn to perform safety inspections and emissions tests under the guidance of a certified technician. The students learn all aspects of basic auto repair that prepare them for an entry level position as a General Service Technician in a local shop or dealership. Students may also elect to attend an advanced training program.
Cement Masonry
In the Cement Masonry program, students learn surface preparation, operation of cement mixing and power washing equipment, mixing and pouring cement, stamping concrete, taping, cement refinishing, and use of scaffolding equipment. This program is designed to prepare students for entry into a union apprenticeship program.
Certified Nursing Assistant
The Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide Program includes training in patient care, extensive medical terminology, and professional ethics. Students also receive hands-on training in a hospital or convalescent care environment.
Clinical Medical Assistant
The Clinical Medical Assistant Program includes training in patient identification, vital signs, general knowledge of anatomy and physiology, patient interaction and communication, assisting the physician during exams, routine office responsibilities, and emergency first aid.
Facilities Maintenance
The Facilities Maintenance program trains students in framing, insulation, roofing, plumbing, dry walling, painting, general carpentry, and installation of doors and windows. This training also enables students to learn all aspects of repair and maintenance necessary for positions as building and apartment maintenance helpers.
Glazing
The Glazing program allows students to work with various forms of glass including laminated, tempered, reflective, and wire-embedded glass, mirrors, and pre-assembled glass panels. Plastic and similar glass substitutes are also used. Glaziers select, measure, install, and fit these materials for use in window and door frames, bath and shower enclosures, glass partitions, skylights and store fronts. Students who complete this program are eligible for entry into a union apprenticeship program.
Medical Office Support
The Medical Office Support Program trains students to be proficient in medical terminology, office procedures, basic diagnosis coding and basic procedure coding, knowledge of basic health insurance terminology and types of coverage, medical records law, ethics, and customer service.
Painting
The Painting program covers the basic fundamentals of painting and coatings. Students learn the basic usage and application of tools such as brushes, rollers, and putty knives. Students also learn about the usage, application, and maintenance of airless spray systems, conventional spray systems, High Volume-Low Pressure (HVLP) cup guns, and other advanced tools.
Additionally, students are taught about various paints and coatings such as latex, oil, urethane, polyurethane, poly-bread, and 100% solid coatings. Students also learn about the different intricacies and correlations between proper surface preparation and a successful coating project. Proper surface preparation is achieved through a variety of means such as manual sanding, mechanical or chemical sandblasting, water blasting, and chemical stripping.
Pharmacy Technician
In the Pharmacy Technician Program, students learn to receive prescription/medication orders from the patient or patient’s representative, prescriber or other health care professional. They maintain inventory levels of expired, overstocked, or recalled pharmaceuticals. They learn to assist the pharmacist in accordance with federal rules and regulations and provide customer service.
