Reimbursements

Responding individuals will be reimbursed for all housing, meals, travel and other expenses related to safety evaluation. However, evaluators cannot receive wages while providing safety evaluation services:

• DSW Volunteers cannot receive wages while on a response.
  
  If they are paid, they lose Worker’s Compensation coverage through the Emergency Services Act and their employer will be responsible for the coverage. They will also lose liability protection from the Emergency Services Act.
  
  
• In accordance with the Master Mutual Aid Agreement, government employees may receive salaries while on response, though not necessarily.
  
  In some cases, the requesting jurisdiction may reimburse the responding jurisdiction for its costs.

Requesting jurisdictions may be reimbursed for their expenses related to the safety assessment process under the Public Assistance Program.
