The 1983 legislature created the Utah Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice. The Commission is comprised of 22 key criminal justice leaders throughout the state. The Commission was created to:
- Promote broad philosophical agreement concerning the objectives of the criminal justice system in Utah.
- Provide a mechanism for coordinating the functions of various braches and levels of government concerned with criminal and juvenile justice
- Coordinate statewide efforts to reduce crime and victimization in Utah
