Center Life
A typical day at Pittsburgh Job Corps is full of activities to help our students prepare for the real world. Students get up early and spend the majority of their day receiving academic and hands-on career technical training.
After class, students study or hang out with friends before dinner in the cafeteria. After dinner, students may do chores in their dorms or spend their downtime studying. Most students are in bed by 10 PM in order to rest for the next day's tasks.
Recreation
Pittsburgh Job Corps boasts one of the best recreation programs in the nation. Students find our recreational activities to be a fun and exciting way to meet new friends, socialize, and just relax and unwind at the end of the day.
Some of activities we offer are ping pong, billiards, foosball, air hockey, and arts and crafts. We also have chess and book clubs, educational games and trips off center.
Our students can also participate with students from other Job Corps centers in regional events such as the arts and crafts competition, holiday card competition, leadership conferences and camps, and sporting events.
Student Government Association
The Student Government Association (SGA) plays an important role in the operation of our center. The SGA officers are elected to represent the student population in all matters and sit on standing committees. They sponsor special events such as: dinner dances, amusement park trips, boat
rides, and all-night bowling. Also, the SGA reviews the Student Handbook with new students, acts as greeters and tour guides, and participates in leadership training.
Community Volunteer Services
Our students are involved in the surrounding community by doing community volunteer services. As volunteers, students can receive recognition in the community as well as on center. This valuable hands-on experience can be used as a reference on a job application. Our students participate as volunteers at the Southwestern Pennsylvania Veterans' Center, Personal Care Nursing Home, Run for Life, Muscular Dystrophy Telethon, Feed the Elderly at the Homewood House, and many other community service events.
Safety
Job Corps is committed to offering all students a safe and secure environment. That's why we have a Zero Tolerance Policy for violence and drugs. Any student who breaks this policy will be dismissed immediately from Job Corps.
