NDI

Non Destructive Inspection (NDI) or Non Destructive Testing (NDT) is the development and application of technical methods to examine materials or components in ways that do not impair future usefulness and serviceability in order to detect, locate, measure, and evaluate flaws. The NDI program supports both the LDE and PVS programs by assessing the integrity of select components according to NASA standards as part of the lifting device equipment and pressure vessel system certifications. In addition, the NDI program may be utilized by other groups including flight projects in order to accommodate their NDI needs.  The most common forms of NDI used at GSFC are visual, liquid penetrant, and magnetic particle inspections. The GSFC NDI program is based on ASNT procedure SNT-TC-1A.  Any questions regarding the implementation of this program please contact John Lugmayer P.E. at 301-286-3559 or by e-mail.
