Want to use DTS but not sure how?

It only takes a few simple steps to access DTS. This page will tell you how.

Before using DTS, you may need to:

  • Enable compatibility View for IE8 and above
  • Check/Install Updated JAVA
  • Obtain a PKI/PKE Certificate
  • Contact Your DTA about Your DTS Account
  • Learn How to Use DTS

Enable Compatibility View

Certain links within DTS do not functions properly for users with Internet Explorer versions 8 and above. This includes, but is not limited to, issues with the Budget Module, Self-Registration, and View, Print, and Remove buttons being non-responsive. Additionally, users with Internet Explorer 11 may be brought directly to this page when attempting to login to DTS.

To avoid these browser issue with DTS, the steps below outline how to enable Compatibility View for DTS within Internet Explorer:

  1. From the Internet Explorer Window, select “Tools” from the Menu Bar. If you do not see the Menu Bar, hold down ALT and press T.
  2. Select “Compatibility View Settings".
  3. In the “Add this website:” box, type in “osd.mil".
  4. Click Add.
  5. Click Close.

Check/Install Updated JAVA

DTS uses a JAVA applet called the “DBsign Universal Web Signer (UWS)” for logging in to the system as well as signing documents. In order to install and run this applet, it is important that your JAVA installation is up-to-date.

  1. Visit java.com and select “Free JAVA Download”.
  2. View detailed instructions about the JAVA installation process.

Obtain a PKI/PKE Certificate

The DoD Public Key Infrastructure/Enabling (PKI) certificate is normally located in the chip on your Common Access Card (CAC). This certificate is used by the DBsign UWS applet mentioned above to verify your identity and authority to use DTS. Because of this, a CAC reader is required to access DTS. To load these certificates from your CAC, operating systems other than Windows 7 will also require an updated installation of “ActivClient” or similar program provided by your IT Department. For issues regarding the PKI certificates on your CAC, please contact your local CAC Issuance Office.

In certain cases, the PKI certificate can be provided as a file. PKI files will not require a CAC reader. For any issues regarding certificate files, please contact your Local Registration Authority.

Contact Your DTA about Your DTS Account

After you have passed the above steps, you may be prompted to enter your SSN twice. Once entered, you will be taken straight to DTS if you currently have a profile attached to an organization. If the profile still needs to be gained to your new or current organization, you will receive an error that your account can not be found or is locked. Contact your Defense Travel Administrator (DTA) to receive your profile. This is normally done during the check-in process when reporting to a new organization.

If you have never used DTS in the past, you will receive a message that your SSN does not match any existing profiles and that you must Self-Register. Please contact your DTA before continuing to ensure that you will be entering the correct organizational information.
