You have reached this page due to an issue with your JAVA installation. DTS uses a JAVA applet called the “Universal Web Signer (UWS)” for logging in to the system as well as signing documents. In order to install and run this applet, it is important that your JAVA installation is up-to-date and that applets are allowed to run on your computer.

Please note: Installing JAVA requires administrator privileges. If you do not have administrator privileges on your computer or are unsure, please contact your IT Department.

How do I install JAVA?

DTS uses a JAVA applet called the “DBsign Universal Web Signer (UWS)” for logging in to the system as well as signing documents. In order to install and run this applet, it is important that your JAVA installation is up-to-date.

  1. Visit java.com and select “Free JAVA Download”.  The JAVA website will provide you with the recommended version of JAVA based on your operating system and browser.  If you are at a work computer, please contact your IT Department to obtain the currently approved version of JAVA being used or have them access the site for you.
  2. If issues occur during JAVA installation or during your initial login to DTS, ensure that your web browser is configured to allow JAVA applets to run.  For example, from the menu bar in Internet Explorer, select the following:
    • Tools
    • Internet Options
    • Select the Advanced tab
      • Scroll down to Java (Sun) and ensure the “Use JRE …” box is checked (note that this option is not always available, depending on your system settings).
    • Select the Security tab
      • Select the “Custom Level” button and set “Scripting of JAVA applets” to “Enabled”
    • Ensure that antivirus programs and/or firewalls (or proxy, normally at work computers) are not blocking the use of JAVA applets
  3. After installing JAVA and making any setting changes to your browser, close all open web browser windows and open a new one before attempting to log in again.
  4. While logging in to DTS, a message may appear stating “The application’s digital signature has been verified”.  Select the “Run” button.  You should be prompted for the  PIN to your CAC shortly after.  If these windows do not appear for you:
    • You may have older versions of JAVA causing issues with your current installation.  Recommend uninstalling all versions of JAVA from the computer and then re-installing the latest version again (Step 1 from above).
    • You may have installed the wrong bit processor (32 bit or 64 bit) version of JAVA.  This is normally detected for you at the JAVA website.  JAVA will recommend the bit version that matches the browser you are using at the time.  This could be caused by using a DTS shortcut from your desktop that open with a different bit version than the one used to visit the JAVA website.  To avoid this, be sure to visit the JAVA website using the same browser shortcut that you will be using to visit DTS.
  5. You will know that your system is running JAVA applets successfully as soon as you receive a window prompting for the PIN to your CAC during login.
