A.G. Burnett

A.G. Burnett is the Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board.  He was appointed to this role by Governor Brian Sandoval in October 2012, and then reappointed to serve another term in January 2015.  Prior to serving as Chairman, he was a Member of the GCB, appointed by Governor Sandoval in January 2011.

Mr. Burnett received his J.D. from Gonzaga University School of Law in 1996, and his B.A. in International Affairs and Political Science from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1992.  He is a member of the Nevada State Bar, and is licensed to practice before all Nevada and Federal courts. 

Before being appointed to the Board, Mr. Burnett served as Deputy Chief of the Corporate Securities Division for the GCB.  In that position, he handled legal matters that came before the Division and oversaw regulatory and investigative activities.  He worked extensively with emerging gaming jurisdictions in their efforts to regulate gaming, and oversaw the compliance activities of publicly-traded Nevada licensees. 

Prior to his time at the Board, Mr. Burnett was a Senior Deputy Attorney General in the Gaming Division of the Nevada Attorney General’s Office, representing the Nevada Gaming Control Board, the Nevada Gaming Commission, and the Nevada Commission on Sports.

During that time, he handled litigation matters on behalf of the Board, including disciplinary actions, tax hearings, and disputed licensing matters. 

Before serving in the Attorney General’s Office, Mr. Burnett was as an associate in the law firm of Robison, Belaustegui, Sharp & Low, engaging in civil litigation with an emphasis on employment and commercial litigation. 

From 2012 to 2015, he served as a Trustee and the Treasurer for the International Association of Gaming Regulators.  He also sits on the William S. Boyd School of Law Gaming Law Advisory Board.  Burnett also served on the Executive Committee of the State Bar of Nevada’s Gaming Law Section from 2000-2006, and served on the Bar’s Functional Equivalency Committee from 2001-2005.

He has spoken and testified extensively on the issues of gaming regulation and regulatory compliance in numerous seminars and continuing legal education classes, including guest lectures at UNLV and UNLV’s Boyd School of Law. 

 

Shawn R. Reid

Shawn R. Reid currently serves as a member on the Nevada Gaming Control Board.  He was appointed by Governor Jim Gibbons from January 1, 2011 to January 30, 2011 and was reappointed by Governor Brian Sandoval to serve a four year term, beginning January 31, 2011.  On January 26, 2015 Mr. Reid was re-appointed by Governor Sandoval to serve another four year term.

Mr. Reid was also appointed by Governor Sandoval to the Nevada Crime Commission on April 2, 2012 and served until the Crime Commission’s expiration on July 1, 2015.

Mr. Reid began his career at the Board in 1990 as an agent in the Board’s Investigations Division.  Prior to his appointment as Board Member, he was the Chief of the Investigations Division.

Mr. Reid graduated from the University of Nevada where he was awarded a B.S. in Business Administration.

 

Terry Johnson

Terry Johnson was appointed to the Nevada Gaming Control Board by Governor Brian Sandoval on November 12, 2012.  Before joining the Board, Mr. Johnson served in Gov. Sandoval’s cabinet as the State Director of Business & Industry.  Prior to that, he was the Assistant Director at the Clark County District Attorney’s Office.  He previously served in the cabinet of former Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn and from 1999-2004 he was the State Labor Commissioner.  Mr. Johnson began his career in public service in 1996 as the state’s Assistant Business Advocate, serving as a liaison between state government and businesses.  He is a past recipient of the Nevada Taxpayers Association “Good Government Award,” having been recognized for his regulatory reforms and agency operations management. 

Mr. Johnson holds a degree in Political Science from UNLV and a Juris Doctor degree from UNLV’s Boyd School of Law.  He is a Member of the State Bar of Nevada, Clark County Bar Association, and the Las Vegas Chapter – National Bar Association.  He is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court in Nevada and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
