5. INTERNATIONAL SHIPMENTS > IMPORTANT

We have had recent problems with US customs. These problems can delay package delivery for more than a week in some cases. To avoid problems you must make it clear that the package is being sent to "Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory", and that the contents have no commercial value.

You must include the name "Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory" in the address.
The words "Sample for Measurement, No Commercial Value" are essential.

6. NOTE about LBNL RECEIVING

Please send your packages to arrive several days before your shift!

The LBNL Receiving Department is not always reliable, and they do not perform well under pressure.

Packages arrive at LBNL in location that is far from the ALS. After several hours, they are delivered to us using an internal LBNL delivery system. This can cause delays from several hours to one dayin some cases. If you cannot send the mask early, the only way to avoid the additional delay, is for US to ask the LBNL receiving to hold the package when it arrives. If we have the tracking number, sometimes they can hold it, other times they fail.

We will do everything we can, but we are not responsible for lost time due to late shipments.

7. NOTE about DIFFERENT CARRIERS

Recently we have had many more delays from DHL shipments than from FedEx. With FedEx, the package tracking makes it easier for us to know where the package is when it is in the last few steps in reaching us.
