Before DAY 1: SCREENING VISIT for this study:

  • Adolescents will need to begin fasting at 10:00 PM the night before their visit to the NIH. This means nothing to eat or drink except for water from the night before at 10:00 PM until we see him or her at the NIH. Also, adolescents will need to wear or bring a tight fitting article of clothing such as briefs or a swimsuit for one of the body composition measurements. Parents and adolescents should each bring an identification card (e.g., license, school ID, etc.), which is necessary to go through the NIH Visitors' security entrance for the NIH campus.
  • We start the screening visit at 8:00 AM in the Pediatric Clinic (1st Floor) in the NIH Clinical Center (Bdg 10). If an adolescent has participated in research at the NIH before, the adolescent and their parent/guardian can go directly to the Pediatric Clinic.
  • If this is the adolescent's first visit to NIH, you will first need to check in at the NIH Clinical Center Admissions (1st Floor, Bdg 10) no later than 7:30 AM. Please be sure to leave plenty of time to go through security and to park. After checking in with Admissions, they will direct you to the Pediatric Clinic.

  • A parent/guardian needs to be present for the duration of the screening visit.
