In 2003, Army leadership decided to suspend the custom design effort for GCSS-Army and move to a commercial-off-the-shelf Solution as the tactical Enterprise Resource Planning solution for the Army.

In December 2007, the PM GCSS-Army implemented the SARSS replacement functionality of GCSS-Army at the B Direct Support Unit, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Ft. Irwin, CA to conduct an Operational Assessment and Continuous Evaluation. The results were excellent.

In July 2008, the Milestone Decision Authority granted an Acquisition Milestone B Decision, authority to proceed with the System Development and Demonstration phase of Acquisition Lifecycle Management process.

In July 2010, the PM GCSS-Army implemented the solution at the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment (ACR) and conducted an Operational Assessment of the supply, property accountability, maintenance and finance functionality. The solution passed the Assessment and the 11th ACR now operates on GCSS-Army.

In August 2011, the Milestone Decision Authority granted GCSS-Army an Acquisition Milestone C Decision, Authority to begin the Production and Deployment phase of the Acquisition Lifecycle Management process.

In October 2011,the PM GCSS-Army implemented the solution at the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, TX. The Army Test and Evaluation Command conducted the Initial Operational Test and Evaluation (IOT&E;) in November 2011.The solution passed the IOT&E.;

In November 2012, the PM GCSS-Army implemented the solution at the Fort Lee, VA Logistics Readiness Center, the Virginia Army National Guard and three units of the US Army Reserve Command at Fort Bragg, NC. The solution passed the Lead Site Verification Testing at these units.

In December 2012, the Milestone Decision Authority granted a Full Deployment Decision to GCSS-Army authorizing the PM to begin fielding the solution to the total Army.

In February 2013, the PM GCSS-Army began deploying the supply and finance functions of GCSS-Army to the total Army. The PM designated this phase of the deployment as Wave 1 Fielding, which will continue into Fiscal Year 2015.

In July 2015, the Milestone Decision Authority approved full fielding of the GCSS-Army wave 2 solution to the total Army. PdM GCSS-Army launched the accountability, unit supply and maintenance functionalities to approximately 140,000 Army users.

In November 2015, the PMO team completed the system deployment of the Increment, Wave 1 solution. Wave 1 replaced the Standard Army Retail Supply System and associated tactical and financial management information systems throughout the Army.

On 26 January 2016, GCSS-Army Increment 2 received Authority to Proceed from the Army Acquisition Executive with a start date of 27 January 2016. Increment implementation will be executed in 3 Waves (Enterprise Aviation, Business Intelligence/Business Warehouse and Army Prepositioned Stocks.
