Applicant Information

The ORISE Research Participation Programs at NASA are educational and training programs designed to provide recent graduates and university faculty opportunities to participate in project-specific NASA research, current public health research, and developmental activities.

Because of the educational nature of these programs, participants must fall into one of the following categories:

• be a postgraduate of an accredited college or university with a degree in a science or engineering discipline, or;
• be a postdoctoral researcher who has earned a PhD within five years of the start date of the appointment, or;
• be a full-time faculty member at an accredited U.S. college or university, or;
• be a senior scientist who is collaborating with NASA scientists, or
• be an invited traveler, who receives honoraria and travel reimbursement only.

Nature of the Appointment

Once selected, the applicant relocates to the location of the mentor, completes the activities defined in the research opportunity, publishes findings if practical, and creates new knowledge that NASA can leverage into the future.  Applicants selected for an appointment will not become employees of ORISE, ORAU, DOE, NASA, or any other office or agency.
