Dental Specialties

AOC 63A—General Dentist.
Examines, diagnoses, and treats diseases, injuries, and defects of teeth, jaws, oral cavity, and supporting structures.

AOC 63B—Comprehensive Dentist.
Provides comprehensive oral health care to include the teaching of diagnostic/management skills; develops and executes treatment plans involving multiple dental specialties.

AOC 63D—Periodontist.
Examines, diagnoses, and treats or prescribes treatment for the supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth or their substitutes and performs implantation or transplantation of teeth or their replacement analogues.

AOC 63E—Endodontist.
Examines, diagnoses, and treats or prescribes treatment of diseases of the dental pulp, traumatic injuries to the pulp and periradicular tissues, and the sequelae of these diseases and injuries.

AOC 63F—Prosthodontist.
Examines, diagnoses, and treats or prescribes treatment for personnel who require management of complex occlusal problems or replacement of missing teeth and associated structures through the fabrication and placement of fixed, removable, or semi-fixed maxillofacial prostheses.

AOC 63H—Public Health Dentist.
Conducts research, studies, and analyses of epidemiologic and dental health services issues. Makes recommendations on policies and programs of the dental health delivery system.

AOC 63K—Pediatric Dentist.
Examines, diagnoses, and treats or prescribes treatment for diseases, abnormalities, injuries, and defects of the teeth and supporting structures for children from birth through adolescence, and special patients of any age who demonstrate mental, physical, and/or emotional handicaps.

AOC 63M—Orthodontist.
Examines, diagnoses, treats, or prescribes treatment of the growing and mature dentofacial structures to include movement of teeth; treats mal-relationships and malformations of the craniofacial complex; in conjunction with oral and maxillofacial surgery, attains and maintains physiological health of the patient.

AOC 63N—Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon.
Examines, diagnoses, and treats or prescribes treatment for conditions involving disease, defect, or injury to the oral and maxillofacial region including oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures and adjunctive care.

AOC 63P—Oral Pathologist.
Examines, diagnoses, treats, and studies diseases of dental and oral tissues. Provides forensic dental identification/support.
