The Supreme Court Clerk's Office is the central point of contact for doing business with the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia. The Clerk's Office accepts papers for filing, preserves all court documents and information, and performs a wide variety of duties for the court, the public, and attorneys. We are happy to answer questions regarding the status of cases before the Court. We will also answer routine procedural questions. However, we cannot provide legal advice or referrals.

Obtaining copies of papers filed
Cases on the argument calendar: In cases that are placed upon the argument calendar, the Clerk's Office posts the lower court's order and the briefs filed by the parties on the appropriate argument calendar page.
Other cases: All public filings are available for inspection during office hours. Charges for copies vary depending on whether the cases are pending or closed. We are able to retrieve pleadings in most closed cases from archive materials; it is advisable to allow sufficient time for processing a record request that must be retrieved from archived material. In cases of significant public interest, we will make filings available on this Web site. The charge for copies is as follows: $1 per page for all opinions, 25ยข per page for copies of documents in pending cases and $1 per page for documents in closed cases. Fax or e-mail charges are $5 for the first page, $2 for the second page and $1 per page after that. There is a $2 per page charge for any documents reproduced from microfilm.
Opinion Summary Mailing List
This e-mail bulletin is prepared several times a year by the Clerk's Office. Subscribers to the free service receive periodic e-mail messages containing summaries of recently-filed opinions, organized by topic for easy reference, along with links to the full text opinions.
