Commander Edward Weiler was born and raised in Mount Holly, New Jersey. He graduated from the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at The Citadel in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science as an Education Major, and was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy. His Naval Aviator Training took place in Pensacola, Florida and Corpus Christi, Texas. He was designated a Naval Aviator in July1999, and assigned to Helicopter Combat Support Squadron THREE (HC-3), Naval Air Station North Island, California, for Fleet Replacement training in the CH-46D Sea Knight helicopter.

Upon completion of this training, CDR Weiler reported to Helicopter Combat Support Squadron EIGHT (HC-8), NAS Norfolk, and made deployments on the USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3) and the USNS SUPPLY (T-AOE 6) throughout the Mediterranean.

In September 2003, CDR Weiler reported to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron THREE (HSC-3) as an MH-60S Instructor Pilot. While at HSC-3 he graduated from the Seahawk Weapons and Tactics Instructor course at the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center (NAWDC) as well as earned his EMBA through the Naval Postgraduate School.

In June 2006 CDR Weiler reported to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWENTY-FIVE (HSC-25) as the Squadron Weapons and Tactics Officer supporting the Naval Air Ambulance Detachment (NAAD) out of Camp Buehring, Kuwait. In January 2008, he reported to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron FIFTEEN (HS-15) where he served as both the Operations and Maintenance Officer, deploying to Balad, Iraq in support of the Combined Joint Operations Air Component as well as supporting Operation Unified Response onboard USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70). After his Department Head tour at HS-15, he reported to the Joint Staff as the Senior Emergency Actions Officer at the National Military Command Center in the Operations Directorate (J-36). During his tour on the Joint Staff, he was selected for Command at HSC-14, a carrier based squadron attached to CVW-9 and the John C. Stennis Strike Group. Upon completing a successful command tour at HSC-14 he returned to Washington, DC as a Congressional Liaison serving both the Senate and House Appropriations Committees.

CDR Weiler has logged over 3300 flight hours. He is authorized to wear the, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, two Air Medals (Strike/Flight award), six Navy Commendation Medals, one Navy Achievement Medal, and has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Leadership Award four times.
