Auditing & Accounting

The professional skills of our Financial Audit Team are essential to the Auditor of State’s Office (AOS) commitment to hold government accountable for the way public dollars are managed. Each year, our Staff identifies millions of dollars in wasteful or illegal government spending. Through performance audits and other services, we provide valuable training, consultation, and recommendations that help governmental agencies and school systems operate more efficiently. As a member of our audit team, you play an integral role in this process, while gaining experience needed for long-term career success.

 

Additional Opportunities

Auditing is just one component of the Auditor of State’s overall mission to ensure accountability and transparency on behalf of Ohio taxpayers. We also lead dozens of criminal investigations each year, and help put white-collar criminals behind bars. Fellowships & Interns help to enhance our success as a public office. The AOS understands that students are our future. In order to develop our future leader’s skills, the AOS offers students a premier experiential learning opportunity through our Fellowships & Internships Program. The AOS Fellowships & Internships Program is comprised of undergraduate and graduate students who gain valuable hands-on experience in various fields, such as Auditing, Legal, IT, Policy Development, Communications, and Investigation. Each Fellow and Intern works with a team of Auditors or another designated Professional based on their field of study in one of eight regional offices throughout Ohio.

Due to the valuable contributions our Fellows & Interns make in enhancing our Office, they are frequently considered for permanent positions with the AOS upon graduation. We offer internships year-round, with opportunities for full-time internships during the summer months. The Auditor of State’s Office offers Internships for Departments outside of the Financial Audit Division. The office seeks students who are interested in public service and state government with an eagerness to learn. Internships are awarded to students pursuing a degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.

Jim Petro Fellowship

Jim Petro Fellows work alongside Staff on the Ohio Performance Team (OPT) in improving governmental processes for efficiency. OPT fosters a collaborative, open and innovative work environment where fellows gain hands-on experience in public service. OPT offers hands-on experience in assisting clients throughout the audit process using Lean Six Sigma methodology. Fellows pursuing a Master’s degree in Business or Public Administration from an accredited college or university are preferred candidates in order to best apply learned coursework and skills. However, the AOS welcomes students of all disciplines interested in transforming local governments.The Auditor of State’s office offers internships for departments outside of the Financial Audit Division. The office seeks students who are interested in public service and state government with an eagerness to learn. Internships are awarded to students learning a degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
