The State Accident Fund offers the following safety related training sessions to
our policyholders free-of-charge. This training is usually conducted at the policyholder's premises, but it can be done at the State Accident Fund or on the policyholder’s premises. These sessions are taught by
competent safety professionals and meet most OSHA requirements.

Safety Training Courses Include:
Accident Investigation Training for Supervisors and Safety Teams
The training defines an "accident" in the workplace and explains why they should be investigated. It also covers the rules of accident investigation and how to elicit information from victims and witnesses. They have it
(information), you need it and this training helps you get it! The importance of investigating "near miss" incidents is discussed.
Back
Injury Prevention
This session covers statistics and causes of back pain and injury in the
workplace. Contributing factors such as medical conditions, lifestyle, posture and body mechanics are covered as is emphasizing employee and employer responsibilities to help prevent back injuries.
Bloodborne Pathogens Awareness Training
This course informs employees of the hazards of occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens possibly contained in blood and other potentially infectious materials. OSHA's Bloodborne
Pathogens Standard(CFR 1910.1030) is discussed and an overview provided. Participants are informed of the employer's Exposure Control Plan and its contents.
Confined Space Entry Training
This brief session defines what confined spaces are and OSHA's requirements (CFR 1910.146) for working in and around them. This is an awareness training that does not include hands-on rescue equipment training.
General
Safety Awareness Training
This session
touches on many of OSHA's requirements regarding employer
responsibilities for worker safety.
Included in this session is information on
the General Duty Clause, Hazard Communication, Fire Extinguishers,
First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens, Lock Out, Tag Out,
Personal Protective Equipment, Employer Safety Programs, Confined Space Entry,
Hearing Conservation, Lift Truck Requirements, Respiratory Protection,
OSHA Citation Trends and Common Shop Violations.
This training is particularly good for employers who want to evaluate the status of their
OSHA compliance and/or new to the safety field.
Hearing
Conservation Training
This session covers OSHA's requirements for employees exposed to noise in the workplace (1910.95). Topics discussed include
time-weighted-averages and decibel level exposures, and the employer’s
responsibility for having a written Hearing Conservation Program.
Heat
Stress in the Workplace
The session covers risk factors (human and environmental) associated with heat stress
injuries/illnesses. It defines signs and symptoms of heat-related illnesses
including heat rash, heat cramps, heat syncope, heat exhaustion and
heat stroke. The session also covers first aid procedures relating to each as well as engineering and work practice controls to avoid heat stress.
Ladder Safety
The session details OSHA requirements for ladders and proper usage in the workplace including proper selection, inspection, set-up and use.
Lock Out, Tag Out
Relating to CFR 1910.147, this course covers the proper measures for preventing the release or escape of hazardous energy (electrical, mechanical, thermal and other potential sources). Elements of this program discuss required documented energy control procedures (written plans), employee training requirements and periodic inspections of the use of these procedures. Awareness training should be done on employees working on or around equipment that has been locked out and in-depth training should be done for those employees who actually perform the lock-out function.
Office Safety
Office personnel are not immune to workplace injuries. This session details workplace hazards in an office setting including chairs and desks, stacking and storage, stairs, filing cabinets, office machines, slips, trips and falls, proper office layout, lighting, housekeeping, ergonomics, material handling, electrical/heat-generating apts concerning employee privacy concerns when recording data.
OSHA 300 RECORDKEEPING
This course covers requirements of OSHA's Recordkeeping Standard (CFR 1904)including how to fill out the OSHA 300, 300A, and 301 forms. It assists recordkeepers in understanding what constitutes an OSHA recordable illness or injury and the importance of recording them correctly. Also, the course discusses OSHA's requirements concerning employee privacy concerns when recording data.
Safety Committees
This is a perfect session for employers looking to get a safety program started or rejuvenated. This program details how to put together an effective safety committee, how an effective committee operates and the purposes for which they exist. It covers proper make-up of a committee and discusses why safety committees sometimes fail to meet their objectives.
Workplace Violence
This session discusses the fundamentals of a good Workplace Violence Program. By detailing a 7-step approach to an effective Workplace Violence Prevention Program. If desired, an eye-opening testimony is provided by workplace violence victims as well as nationally-known experts in the DVD “Workplace Violence: Dealing With a National Epidemic”.
Workers' Compensation (Your E-mods and Trends)
This program is best for the safety management of an organization but is also helpful for selected employees who can benefit from learning the economic impact of injuries in the workplace. The session is personalized to the organization and utilizes actual numbers to show performance and trends over a specific time period. Very good session for numbers-oriented people, especially those who are responsible for paying the premiums associated with Workers' Comp Insurance. (Please note - This class is not the same as Worker's Comp 101)
