About the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP)
Created in 1965, FGP provides a way for volunteers age 55 and over to stay active by serving children and youth in their communities. Foster Grandparents are role models, mentors, and friends to children with exceptional needs. Foster Grandparents serve an average of 20 hours per week in locations including schools, hospitals, juvenile correctional institutions, daycare facilities, or Head Start centers.
Foster Grandparents receive pre-service orientation, training from the organization where they will serve supplemental accident and liability insurance, and meals while on duty. Volunteers who meet certain income guidelines also receive a small stipend. FGP projects may use FGP grant funds to conduct volunteer recruitment and recognition, reimburse volunteers for service related travel and other service expenses, and provide stipends to volunteers and other grant expenses as described in 45 CFR Part 2552.
Start Date: September 1, 2016. The initial award budget period will end on June 30, 2017. Subsequent budget periods will be 12 months in duration, July 1 through June 30.Non-Federal Share Requirement: The minimum support requirement is 10 percent of the total grant budget (federal plus non-federal share).
Deadline: Your application is due no later than July 15, 2016. Applications must be submitted in eGrants by the deadline in order to be considered.
