Commander Matthew Schlarmann
Executive Officer, VAQ-137
A native of Dubuque, Iowa, Commander Schlarmann graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2000 where he earned a Bachelor of Science in History. He was winged as a Naval Flight Officer in February 2002.

Following initial EA-6B fleet replacement training, in July 2003, Commander Schlarmann reported to the Patriots of Electronic Attack Squadron ONE FOUR ZERO where he deployed on USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) in 2004 and on USS DWIGHT D EISENHOWER (CVN 69) in 2006-2007 in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM. Following completion of the Prowler Tactics Instructor (PTI) course, he deployed as the Patriot’s Training Officer to MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, in support of United States Pacific Command airborne electronic attack requirements.

In April 2007, CDR Schlarmann reported to Strike Fighter Squadron ONE TWO TWO for transition training in the F/A-18F. Following transition training, he reported to Electronic Attack Squadron ONE TWO NINE for instructor duty to stand up the EA-18G replacement squadron. During this tour he served as the Assistant Operations Officer and oversaw the first two EA-6B squadrons transition to the EA-18G.

In January 2010, Commander Schlarmann attended the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, KS. While there he earned a Master of Science in Adult and Continuing Education from Kansas State University.

In September 2011, CDR Schlarmann reported to the Scorpions of Electronic Attack Squadron ONE THREE TWO as the Safety Officer. While there he also served as the Operations and Maintenance Officer. In 2012, he deployed to Misawa, Japan, in the first Expeditionary Growler deployment to the western Pacific Ocean.

From January 2014 to December 2015, Commander Schlarmann was assigned to Navy Personnel Command, PERS-43, Millington, TN, where he served as the VAQ/NAWDC/VT NFO Placement Officer.

Following EA-18G fleet replacement training, Commander Schlarmann reported to the Rooks of Electronic Attack Squadron ONE THREE SEVEN as the Executive Officer in July 2016.

Lieutenant Commander Schlarmann has accumulated over 2,000 flight hours and 200 carrier arrested landings in the EA-6B and EA-18G. His decorations include the Air Medal Strike/Flight (two), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two) and various unit, service and campaign awards.
