Save Water this Summer

The Water Resources Board Strategic Plan and the recently adopted State Guide Plan Element Water 2030 recognize the importance of public education and demand management to protecting our water resources and ensuring safe, ample and reliable water supplies. Our challenges and needs vary by region and by type of supply.

The Board promotes best practices for lawn maintenance encouraging everyone to SLOW THE FLOW. It can be as simple as turning off the sprinklers when it's raining!

The Board also encourages Rhode Islanders to SAVE WATER THIS SUMMER. This campaign was targeted in its first year to users of a specific watershed in Southern Rhode Island. Every year we seek to increase awareness and appeal to residents and visitors to use less water during the summer months.

Feel free to JOIN IN. Even small savings can make a big difference during the peak water use season. Can you save a little every day? At the tap (2-4 gallons per minute), toilets (water efficient at 1.28 gallons per flush v. up to 5 gallons per flush for older models), on the lawn (1" a week is all you need). Water is precious; be creative.
