Dental NCO and Enlisted MOS

 

  • 68E10 Dental Assistants - performs a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. Assistants work chairside as the dentists examine and treat patients. Assistants make patients as comfortable as possible in the dental chair, prepare them for treatment, and obtain their dental records. Assistants hand instruments and materials to dentists and keep patients’ mouths dry and clear by using suction or other devices. Assistants also sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment, prepare trays of instruments for dental procedures, and instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care.

  • 68EX2 Preventive Dentistry Specialists - removes soft and hard deposits from teeth, teaches patients how to practice good oral hygiene, and provide other preventive dental care. Preventive Dentistry Specialists’ examine patients’ teeth and gums, recording the presence of diseases or abnormalities. They remove calculus, stains, and plaque from teeth; take and develop dental x rays; and apply cavity-preventive agents such as fluorides and pit and fissure sealants.

  • 68EN5 – Dental Laboratory Technician – performs procedures in fabrication and repair of removable and fixed dental prosthodontic appliances based on consultation requests. The technician fabricates fixed and removable precision appliances; fabricates simple and complex orthodontic, pedodontic, periodontic and surgical appliances; assists in fabricating maxillofacial appliances; manages the operational maintenance of laboratory equipment; orders and receives supplies.
