Recommended Guidelines for Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) for ASL-Interpreted Events (November 2012)
This guide, approved by the Court Interpreters Advisory Panel, offers assistance to court and judicial staff in identifying when Video Remote Interpreting may be appropriate for American Sign Language interpreted events. In addition, this guide identifies minimum technology requirements for VRI and a self assessment for ASL interpreters planning to provide VRI services.
Recommended Guidelines for the Use of Deaf Intermediary Interpreters
(March 2011)
This guide, approved by the Court Interpreters Advisory Panel, offers assistance to court and judicial staff in identifying when this unique type of interpretation may be required. In addition, this guide identifies how to best utilize deaf interpreters.
2010 Language Need and Interpreter Use Study: Report to the Legislature

The 2010 Language Need and Interpreter Use Study provides the Judicial Council of California with background information, data, and analysis needed to make both short-term and long-term decisions regarding additional languages to include in the certification program for court interpreters.

California's Assessment of the Consortium for Language Access in the Courts' Exams
The final study of the court interpreter testing program overseen by the Consortium for Language Access in the Courts, conducted by ALTA Language Services, Inc., was released in April 2010.
Study of Court Interpreter Services in Civil Cases in California
(September 2008)
The final report, The Provision of Court Interpreter Services in Civil Cases in California: An Exploratory Study prepared by the National Center for State Courts was released September 2008. The study explores the practices of a limited number of California superior courts in which some level of court interpreter services are provided in civil cases. The goal of the study was to understand how courts organize and deploy their interpreter services. The report highlights best practices in the delivery of court interpreter services.
Study of California's Court Interpreter Certification and Registration Testing
The final report, Study of California's Court Interpreter Certification and Registration Testing by ALTA Language Services, Inc. was released in November 2007. The Judicial Council has been considering the recommendations made in the ALTA study with the advice of the Court Interpreters Advisory Panel, as well as public comments received during the comment period, November-December 2007. The Court Interpreters Program will announce any modifications to the testing program upon implementation of the council's recommendations, contingent on funding.
