Course Description: OPM’s Retirement Services, Benefits Officers Training and Development (BOTD) announces the 2016 Fall Festival of Training. Participants get to choose between 24 Retirement, Insurance, Benefits, and Financial Planning workshops on November 29, 30, and December 1, 2016 at the Wyndham Grand in Pittsburgh, PA. These workshop options consist of 1- day workshops and ½ day workshops.
During the Benefits Training, BOTD is offering these workshops to help you increase your knowledge of the Federal benefits programs and to improve your benefits counseling skills. These workshops will be led by OPM experts and will offer an intensive, high-energy learning experience on selected topics.
Participants will have the opportunity to sign up for a unique, full-day experience at the Retirement Operations Center (ROC) in Boyers, PA. Not just will participants receive a tour of the facility, but they will also have the chance to follow the flow of retirement applications and forms through their processing at the ROC.
The morning ROC activities will consist of an orientation and a tour of the ROC with stops at the various processing areas to explain what we do as you follow the workloads through the facility. The afternoon will be breakout sessions on various work processes performed at the ROC, such as retirement development, Death in Service processing, Service Credit, and FERS annuities.
This workshop is intended for human resource professionals who work with benefits programs. Transportation from and to the host hotel and lunch at the ROC are included. Participants in this workshop must bring a government ID and a second photo ID. Closed-toe shoes are required at the ROC. Extensive walking is involved.
Attendance at the Benefits Training meets the requirement in 5 U.S.C 8350(3) that "once each year, each retirement counselor of an agency shall successfully complete a training session conducted under the [U.S. Office of Personnel Management] training program."
