Kansas Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program

A state-wide advocacy organization seeking to improve long-term care facility residents' quality of life and care.  Ombudsman investigate and work to resolve complaints made by or on behalf of residents of long-term care facilities.  In handling complaints, Ombudsmen respect resident and complainant confidentially, encourage resident empowerment, and focus complaint resolutions on the resident’s wishes.

 All investigations are confidential and provided at no charge.

Kansas Department For Aging and Disability Services

The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) licenses and regulates Kansas's long-term care facilities and provides a toll-free telephone system through which consumers may file complaints. KDADS is responsible for investigating allegations of abuse, neglect, exploitation and failure to provide adequate care and services to residents in adult care homes. 

KDADS operates a toll free complaint hotline for the purpose of providing free phone access to the complaint program for receiving reports of allegations of abuse, neglect, exploitation, violations of state and federal regulations and failure to provide adequate care of individuals residing in adult care homes. Kansas Adult Protective Services

Adult Protective Services (APS) responds to reports of abuse, neglect or exploitation of adults. Intervention is available to adults age 18 and older who are unable to protect themselves. This includes individuals who have physical, emotional or mental impairments. 

APS provides this service for adults who reside:

  • in the community
  • in facilities licensed or certified by the Department for Children and Families
  • in adult care homes and other facilities licensed by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services when the perpetrator is not a resident of or on the staff of the facility

Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit

Investigates fraud committed by health care providers. The Attorney General's Office works to protect the Kansas Medicaid program by recovering funds improperly billed to the Medicaid program and prosecuting those who exploit the program for personal gain.
